When these fat cells get these areas get large enough they displace the connective tissue around them under the skin, which is why you get that “Orange Peel” look.

This sedentary lifestyle promotes the development of cellulite as our musculature loses its ability to hold everything in its proper place. Not to fret, however, as now there are exercises that can help you get your thighs and bum back into shape again.

One of the earliest attempts to get our bum into shape was the “Buns of Steel Collection” of home exercise videos. It originally debuted in 1987 and is still available today and it will help you build back up the internal structure that put the fat cells back where they belong as start burning off the excess energy stored in them reducing a number of fat cells as well.

Two other excellent exercises for removing cellulite on the bum and thighs are squats and lunges. Whether you use weights with you squats is up to you but the key is to do them at least once a day. If possible, two times is even better. After a bit, you may wish to add hand weights and later you might want to go with a bar and no weights at first.

To do a proper squat:

1). Stand with your feet 12 to 14″ apart and hold your arms straight out in front of you.

2). Bending at the knees slowly lower yourself down until your knees are even with your toes, you should be balanced on the balls of your feet and not resting on your heels.

3). Slowly rise up and return to your original standing position.

4). Repeat for a set of ten. Work your way up to 3 sets a day. Thirty a day for 30 days and you’ll see a marked difference in your appearance of your bum and thighs.

The Lunge:

1). Again with your feet 12-14″ apart, step backward with on foot and drop down into a kneeling position your front foot and the leg should form and inverted “L”. Your rear foot should be balanced on the ball of your foot.

2). From this position shift your weight onto the front leg and then slowly move forward to lift yourself back upright. Tighten you bum while drawing yourself up bring the rear leg even with the front leg.

3). Repeat with the opposite leg.

4). Repeat for a set of ten. Work your way up to 3 sets a day. Thirty a day for 30 days and you’ll see a marked difference in your appearance of your bum and thighs.

You can also use hand weights of about 1-2 lbs. if you wish while doing this exercise. If they are not available, two empty water bottles filled with sand or pebbles can substitute.

Using breath while doing the lunge is also of benefit.
